Cedric Kaze: Chiefs not panic buying in January transfer window

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze says he’s satisfied with the group of players currently on their books, and will not be doing any panic buying this transfer window.

Chiefs have been quiet in the market compared to their direct competitors in the Betway Premiership with Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United all having unveiled fresh faces recently.

He says they have a lot of players who are yet to show their full potential, but could not close the door on the possibility of doing some business if the opportunity arises.

"I'm very happy with the squad that we have. We practically signed 12 players at the beginning of the season, and as I've said, the pre-season struggles didn't put the new players into the necessary condition to understand how we want to play. Now, we have had time to rectify that, and I'm sure we are going to see even more quality especially from the newer players."

Kaze says there is a likelihood that they will instead be releasing some of their players before the window closes. The coach however did not disclose whether they’re looking to loan them out or have permanent exits.

"There are some conversations going around with regards to players going out, but in terms of the incomings, it's just about seeing if there is potentially a very good deal on a very specific kind of player."

Chiefs resume their league football with a home game against Golden Arrows tomorrow at FNB Stadium.

Kaze says it’s important to get a good result there in order to get on the front foot for the rest of the season.

They’re currently in fourth position after 13 matches played.

Meanwhile…the coach also commented on the dramatic scenes in the AFCON Final last night, where some Senegalese players even left the pitch in protest after a penalty was awarded to Morocco.

Kaze says the incident was shameful for African football, and should not happen again.
