Casric Stars owner-coach happy to step aside

Casric Stars part-owner Bucs Mthombeni, who also coached the team in their debut PSL season, is happy to step aside in the best interest of the club.

The KwaMhlanga side very nearly got promoted to the top flight at the first time of asking after buying Free State Stars' status in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Casric finished third in the league to secure a place in the promotion play-offs, where they were outclassed by Maritzburg United and Cape Town Spurs.

Mthombeni insists he will not influence the outcome regarding his future.

"Our policy is very clear. I've got only one cap – the cap of a coach. If at any point they [the club's executive committee] decide to have their own private meeting, excluding the coach, they do," noted Mthombeni.

"Now, I will first give them their sitting excluding me, because remember I cannot be a referee and a player. Afterward, they took a decision to always follow the same process of interviewing [coaches].

"Remember I'm not sitting in that interview, there's a committee that sits and interviews coaches. So, I don't know [if I'll stay] after the Exco [meet].

"But the way we finished [the season] is a disadvantage. If ever they see this year, they'll say, 'Eish, the way this coach finished... If I had 10 points, I lose already four, then somebody needs to convince [them] for me to have nine, which is for me to qualify and sit on the adjudication.

"But so far, it's a very, very tough one. I think the board of directors will sit and decide [the coach's future] because my contract was only for one year."
