Cape Town City flex intent with Miguel Timm swoop

SABC Sport can confirm that Cape Town City are in the advanced stages of securing the services of midfielder Miguel Timm from Sekhukhune United.

The transfer comes as a surprise given that Timm has been with Babina Noko for just over five months, having joined the club on a free transfer from Orlando Pirates at the start of the season.

Despite arriving with considerable experience and pedigree, the midfielder now appears set for an early exit from Sekhukhune.

Sources close to the negotiations have informed the public broadcaster that Timm was presented with an offer too significant to ignore – one that persuaded him to trade topflight football for a role in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as Cape Town City push hard for an immediate return to the elite level.

While Timm was not a regular starter under coach Eric Tinkler, he featured prominently as a squad player, making 14 appearances across all competitions.

His influence off the bench and ability to manage games proved valuable as Sekhukhune emerged as unexpected contenders in the title race during the first half of the campaign.

Cape Town City, meanwhile, have quietly reignited their promotion push.

After a stuttering start following relegation, the Citizens have climbed to fourth place after 14 matches and remain firmly in contention for automatic promotion.

Timm’s arrival is expected to add much-needed experience and leadership to Jan Vreman’s midfield as the season enters its decisive phase.

His understanding of the demands of the first tier could prove pivotal in City’s bid to return at the first attempt.

The move, however, raises questions for Sekhukhune United, who are allowing a senior player of Timm’s stature to depart midway through the season and places renewed scrutiny on squad depth and long-term planning, with Tinkler now tasked with reshaping his midfield options for the remainder of the campaign.
