CAF Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns drop points at home against Al Hilal

Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 2-2 draw by Al Hilal in their CAF Champions League group stage encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Friday.

The result leaves Sundowns still on top of the group on five points after three matches in the group with the return game scheduled for next week.

The South African outfit still lead the group after picking up five points from their three matches.

Sundowns started the contest dominating possession but were stunned when the Sudanese took the lead after 15 minutes when Abdelrazig Omer latched onto a ball played behind the defence and blasted into the roof of the net.

The home side found the equaliser five minutes later when Nuno Santos sent a pass into the box that found Arthur Sales who finished calmly.

The South African side started the second strongly but again failed to penetrate the visitors defence, with he attacks breaking down in the third.

It took a brilliant long-range strike from Teboho Mokoena to give Sundowns the lead for the first time just after the hour mark.

The Bafana midfielder picked the ball up in the middle and unleashed a rocket straight into the back of the net that gave the Al Hilal goalkeeper no chance.

The lead short-lived however as Omer completed his brace to level matters with 20 minutes remaining.

Al Hilal were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute when Emmanuel Flomo was sent off for a deliberate shove to the face but by then Sundowns were already disappointed and had to settle for a draw.
