The Confederation of African Football announced the shortlist on Sunday; with last year's winner Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman not making the final cut.
Victor Osimhen made the final list after an impressive first season in Turkey, top scoring in the SuperLig with 26 goals to lead Galatasaray to the 2024/25 league title and won the Turkish Cup. He has previously won the CAF's best player award in 2022.
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah could collect his third African Player of the Year award following his 2017 and 2018 triumphs after starring for Liverpool in their 2024/25 Premier League title win and lead his country to 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
Final contender Achraf Hakimi had a fantastic 2024/25 season, winning Ligue 1, French Cup and Paris Saint-Germain's maiden UEFA Champions League title before leading Morocco to qualify for next year's World Cup.
All three players also played a crucial role for their respective nation's qualification to the upcoming 2025 African Nations Cup next month.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday November 19, in the Moroccan capital of Rabat
