Mayo arrived at Chiefs at the beginning of this month, but only started playing just last week in the Betway Premiership and scored on debut against Marumo Gallants on debut. On loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, Mayo’s influence has rubbed off on Duba, who is yet to score this season, and he aims to take advantage of this.
"Mayo is helping me get back to what I do best. After our recent CAF game, we had a conversation and started doing some extra training."
Duba was part of the unsuccessful national U20 project with Mdu Shabalala, Relebohile Mofokeng, Puso Dithejane and many others in 2022.
But with the current Amajita team, he feels that the African champions can do something special.
"I was speaking to Mfundo two days ago, just to wish him good luck for the World Cup. Our U/20's are a very good time, they won the AFCON, and they can win the World Cup."
Duba was amongst the club’s top goal scorers with five goals and three assists from 25 matches last season in all competitions.
It was still not a good return, but he was featuring in the team. He’s only played five matches this season from the bench and says he fully understands that as a striker, he must deliver.
"I didn't start my season very well, that's why the coach took me out of the team because I wasn't giving him what he wanted.
"I think every team needs a striker who can score goals. Flavio da Silva and Khanyisa Mayo have already scored when they were in the team, and now I want to follow."
