Ideally, Broos would have preferred to play against opponents from Europe and Asia. But he will now be forced to settle for only one opponent, either from Europe or Asia. The two matches against Panama helped Bafana to have an idea of what to expect against Mexico. With the Czech Republic and South Korea in their group, Broos says the limited time they have at the end of May complicates their programme.
"You know and I have said it already that we have a problem with the preparation because we have to go to high altitude. We need ten days on high altitude to be ready and to be adept on 2,300 metres in Mexico City. So that's a problem. We can't play so many games," Broos said
"How can you ask from us to play a game when you have to go on high altidude? We are not ready to play there and there is no team who wants to come on 2,300 metres to play a game. So we will have one game, that is for sure, and we will have to do it with that. Which team? It can be a European team, it can be an Asian team.
"We will see in the next weeks. I hope and I expect also that we will know our opponent in this, let's say, two, three weeks."
Broos used the two matches against Panama to test German-based defender Ime Okon, giving him more game time, as he looks to settle on a perfect centre-back pairing in the absence of the injured Siyabonga Ngezana. Broos believes that the Hannover 96 defender has shown his quality.
The missed chances continue to bother Broos and his technical team. He counted roughly 10 chances the team could have easily put away in the two matches against Panama, and this is a concern coming from the recent AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Broos has hinted that they expect to announce their final squad for the World Cup on the 18 May, and reveals that even though they are happy with Mbekezeli Mbokazi showing after the great goal he scored during the 2-1 loss to Panama, they are going to help him deal with his temper.
