Brandon Truter looking for redemption in “must-win” Carling Knockout clash

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter says he will be looking for redemption at the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they host TS Galaxy in the quarterfinal of the Carling Knockout Cup tomorrow night.

The game will be televised on SABC Sport and is one Truter has described as a “must-win” following a run of poor results that have put a strain on his job.

Galaxy did beat Babina Noko 2-0 in the DStv Premiership last weekend and Truter wants to avoid being punished by the same team twice.

"That's what we're backing on. The fact that it's a cup game, it's a must-win game for both teams. We've got the home ground advantage, so, hopefully that will be in our favour. We are also mindful that our home form has not been the greatest, against Galaxy, it was our first away loss and in front of our supports especially, we want to turn it around," Truter said.

Truter insists the recent losses are not a true reflection of how well Sekhukhune have played to find themselves outside the Top 8 on the log standings.

The cup tie is, however, a once-off.

"In the previous cup game against Royal AM, we played some very good football. Even this weekend in Mbombela as well. We've been struggling in the moment in the last third which we are working on extensively. I think that's the only aspect. Galaxy is a team that plays in the d block which is very difficult to break down and they have the speed to play in the counterattack as well. So, we have to go out against that," Truter added.

Although everyone at the club is eyeing the lucrative Carling Knockout, the coach is wary of going all the way in a domestic competition but dropping crucial points in the league – their bread and butter.

"Our cup form from last season with being in a cup final, progressing into the group stages of the Confederations Cup has been good but at the same time you don't wanna perform good in the cup competitions and then your league form suffers. It's still very early in the season, it's only the third of the season gone but you are mindful about and the fact is about we saw what happened last season with the team doing fantastically well in the cup competitions and the league form suffered, it was extended, it got relegated."
