Brandon Peterson urges Kaizer Chiefs focus amid Nasreddine Nabi axing

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson says coaches come and go, but the most important thing for the players is to concentrate on the next game and deliver for the team when called upon.

Speaking to SABC Sport at the launch of this season’s Carling Knockout at FNB Dome, Peterson didn’t want to be drawn much into the situation of their outgoing head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.

As they look forward to their next matches against Marumo Gallants and the second leg in the CAF Confederation Cup against Kabuscorp, Peterson says all they need is to stay focused.

"I think at the end of the day, this is football – coaches come and coaches go, at the end of the day, the main thing for us is to stay focused, we obviously have back-to-back games," said Petersen.

"And I think, for us, it's important to try and keep the team [focused] to make sure we stay in it because, obviously, we have a job at hand, which is to play football and make the supporters happy.

"So I think that's the main focus for now, and we're looking forward to the next fixture, going out and doing our best."

Assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef remain in charge, but Peterson refused to comment on whether the team is performing better under the duo now that Nabi is not there.

"I think we've always been the same – when coach Nabi was there or if he wasn't there. I think it's a conspiracy, and for us, it's important to always respect whoever is in charge," he added.

"Because that's our job – our job is to play football, listen to the coaches and do what we're instructed to do, and at the end of the day, like I said, coaches come and they go, and for us it's to stay focused on our job at hand."
