Grobler downplays knack for scoring against Kaizer Chiefs

SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler insists there is no secret to his impressive scoring record against Kaizer Chiefs as he prepares to face them again this afternoon.

Matsatsantsa will come up against Amakhosi at Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 15h00, with plenty at stake as the two sides battle for a top-three finish in the DStv Premiership.

But one notable record from the game is Grobler's knack for beating Chiefs goalkeepers, having scored 10 goals in 20 clashes against the Soweto giants – the most against any opponent he's faced over the course of his career.

However, he has insisted there is nothing intentional he does differently and will be approaching today's encounter with the same verve he does for any other fixture.

"There's nothing that comes to mind. I play every game the same way, and it's not that we're playing Chiefs, or Pirates, that I want to score more than in any other game," Grobler told SABC Sport.

"I think it's just one of those things that have just happened. Whether it's the full crowd that gets me doing that, I can't tell you. Like I said, I go into every game, it doesn't matter who we're playing against, with the same attitude and mindset."

One other factor playing in the 35-year-old's favour is the match being staged at his old stomping ground, where he holds fond memories of launching his professional career.

"I think, possibly for the team, it might play on the minds going to play a home game in Rustenburg. For me, it reminds me of old days, it's where things kind of started for me," he noted.

"I played for Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, so I'm very comfortable and very familiar with the ground, but obviously playing against Chiefs is going to be tough."

While the Glamour Boys come off a humbling defeat to rivals Orlando Pirates and will look to bounce back, United have their own ambitions of pipping the Buccaneers to second on the league table and qualifying for next season's CAF Champions League.

"The result they're coming off last weekend will be hurting them, and they'll obviously look to get back to winning ways, they've got to keep their supporters happy and after the Derby, this will be a must-win for them," acknowledged Grobler.

"At the same time, it's also important for us – we want to go to Africa, we want to finish second, if not third. So, this game I think is a big decider in where we'll finish."
