Basetsana fired up for World Cup Qualifier against Eswatini

The team arrived in Lobamba on Wednesday ahead of Friday’s clash at Somhlolo National Stadium, where they will undergo final preparations on Thursday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Khumalo says it is their dream to experience a maiden World Cup, which serves as enough motivation for the team.

“Qualifying for the World Cup is everyone's dream, for the coach, players and the whole nation – it is very crucial to qualify,” said Khumalo.

“We don't know much about our opponents, and playing in their home is not going to be a walk in the park, but we have a very good team that is very positive.

“They understand what is at stake. Team work, aggression, determination and resilience will propel the team to win.”

Basetsana are chasing their first ever World Cup appearance, with the showpiece taking place in Poland from 5-27 September 2026. 

Khumalo says she is aware of the pressure that is already on the team, and hopes the players can use it as motivation.

“Remember the team is already under pressure as we have never qualified for the U20 Women’s World Cup, and that is the reason the team has to work extra hard,” she added.

“Every coach will be proud of having players representing the national team, and it means there is progress in the development side. 

“The squad is very balanced in terms of personnel as well within respective positions, and I am happy with the selection so far.”
