Banyana Banyana eyes for stronger finish in Algeria test

Banyana Banyana striker Nthabiseng Majiya says the team is eager to end their two-match international friendly campaign against Algeria on a positive note.

The South African women’s national team secured a 1–0 victory in their first friendly on Tuesday, with the second and final match set to take place at King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday.

Majiya believes a tactical shift will be key to securing another win, as both teams now have a better understanding of each other.

“I think Algeria is going to plan well for the next game, so we also need to come up with a different strategy. Now that we’ve played each other, we know what to expect and where the weaknesses are. We’re looking forward to the next match and aiming for an even better result,” said Majiya.

The 21-year-old added that Tuesday’s victory is a step in the right direction, while also providing players with an opportunity to claim a place in the final Women’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.

“Everyone is putting their hand up for selection, and it comes down to how much work you are willing to put in. We are all excited, but we also understand that not everyone will make the final squad,” added Majiya.

Majiya, who scored a stunning winner and earned Player of the Match honours in the first encounter, credited her teammates and the technical team for her performance.

“I would like to thank my teammates and the coaches for their support. It was a good game, and I’m grateful to be named Player of the Match. I’m looking forward to doing even better in the second friendly,” she expressed.
