The 18-year-old has been impressive for the Bergamo based side, making 28 appearances for the Serie A side this season and even scoring one goal.
He joined Atalanta last summer from Genoa for a reported of 16 million euro, plus 4 million euro in bonuses after having done well since making his league debut against Juventus in September 2024.
Ahanor's good performances this season have been rewarded with a call up to Italy's U21 squad for upcoming international friendlies against North Macedonia and Sweden.
"Wearing such an important jersey as Italy's is indescribable, regardless of how many times you've worn it or the opportunities you've had in the past," said the young defender at a pre-match press conference.
"Being able to represent your country, the place you live in and that's in your blood, is a powerful feeling that makes all the sacrifices worthwhile."
The Italian born youngster, who is the son of Nigerian parents, also warned his teammates of complacency in the upcoming international fixtures.
"We can't underestimate any opponent, regardless of whether we're facing a 'top' team or a team considered 'small.' Ahanor added.
âWe're talking about European qualification, every point matters, and we need to take to the field with the right mentality: this is the concept the coach is emphasizing most."
