AmaZulu's Siphesihle Maduna ready to step up under 'Cijimpi'

AmaZulu FC midfielder Siphesihle Maduna believes coach Pablo Franco Martins can finally help him fulfill his dream of becoming one of the best players in the country.

Maduna has often been labelled one of the most promising players, having earned plaudits for his impressive debut season in 2019/20, but is yet to reach his full potential.

The now 23-year-old display's have seen the likes of Kaizer Chiefs reportedly showing interest in him over the last two years, and Usuthu have fought to keep him on their books.

Speaking with Ukhozi FM's Nkululeko Dladla during the launch of the KwaZulu-Natal Premier's Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday, Maduna feels injuries have weighed him down heavily, but he now wants to show South Africa what he can really do.

"Every season I am growing, from under-17 to the senior team. I have been growing and learning. I had lot of injuries, and I need to improve next season," said the former PSL Young Player of the Season nominee.

"I am no longer young, I need to show the talent I have, and prove people right about my capabilities. I am talking about people, who believe in me."

Maduna has worked with several top tacticians in the country, including Calvin Johnson, who gave him a professional debut at Usuthu, Benni McCarthy, and Brandon Truter.

He now gets a chance to rub shoulders with Martin – a former Real Madrid assistant coach, and he believes he can finally show his true qualities under the Spaniard.

"I've worked with coach Benni McCarthy, he was huge for us, and now with coach Pablo Martin in charge, I believe I will learn a lot about international football," he added.

"With his experience, I can take my career to another level, as long as I work hard."

With McCarthy now at Manchester United, the Maduna revealed he remains in contact with the Bafana Bafana legend after they enjoyed a good working relationship two seasons ago.

"I still talk to coach Benni. He was very good to me, he believed in me, and I just want to keep working hard," he concluded.
