AmaZulu CEO Sinenjabulo Zungu explains process in securing a women's team

AmaZulu chief executive officer Sinenjabulo Zungu has opened up on the club's process of securing a women's team as they forge ahead with their ambitious growth targets.

South African football clubs are moving swiftly to affiliate with women's team due to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Licensing regulations, particularly those competing in the continental competitions.

As earlier reported by SABC Sport, Sekhukhune United, SuperSport United, and Orlando Pirates have signed on with existing women's teams competing across the Hollywoodbets Super League and Sasol League to meets the CAF requirements.

Meanwhile, the Usuthu hierarchy are also in the process of forming their own partnership with one of the Durban-based women's teams, among which Lindelani Ladies (Sasol League), Durban Ladies (Super League) and Sunflower WFC (Sasol League) were approached.

Zungu has admitted that initial talks had started but the process has had to be put on hold, with the intention of resuming in the near future.

"We had started the process, but [because of] the difficulties we had as a club, we had to put it on hold. It remains part of the priority, we really want to have a ladies team soon," Zungu told the public broadcaster.

According to Zungu, having big brands such as former Real Madrid coach Pablo Franco Martin associated with the club makes a significant difference in terms of approaching sponsors, which is required to run both the men's and women's teams.

"I think it does [a lot] for the brand to have someone with such a great profile. He does something for the image of the club. It adds quality to the approach of our proposals because now we have someone with international appeal," he added.
