The 18-year-old delivered the killer blow that sank favourites Morocco to win the youth continental tournament, avenging South Africa’s defeat to the same opponent in 1997.
Although he’s had a few sessions with the senior team to try to impress coach Miguel Cardoso recently, Kekana has been playing DStv Diski Challenge football.
Speaking to SABC Sport alongside his agent Basia Michaels, the teenager insisted he will let his feet do the talking.
"God is forever accurate, and I'm just waiting on him to open doors for me. In the meantime, I'll just keep on working hard, and eventually God will open doors for me, and I'll be ready to grab the opportunity with both hands when the time comes," said the U20 AFCON winner.
Kekana did, however, acknowledge the significance of his contribution.
"Great things take time, and I'm saying that because it was my first goal for the national team, and just imagine scoring a goal like that on such a big stage in Africa. I was so happy with the winning goal, but the team worked really hard throughout to win the competition," said Kekana.
Michaels says the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Chile presents Kekana and his U20 teammates with a plethora of opportunities.
"He's had an amazing tournament, but we also have to be able to nurture talent. Going to the World Cup will give him and us the ultimate platform that we want to get him to Europe. That has been something he's wanted to achieve since he was sixteen."
The agent adds that one of Kekana’s attributes is resilience, as evidenced by how he responded while nursing a long-term injury.
