Fawaaz Basadien reveals mindset behind Sundowns breakthrough

The left-back joined Sundowns from Stellenbosch FC over a year ago but initially struggled for game time, with Aubrey Modiba and Divine Lunga ahead of him in the pecking order.

Basadien has already featured in six matches this campaign and says maintaining a positive mindset and giving his best helped him navigate the challenging period.

"Yeah, thank you. I think it's a matter of consistency as well as just the belief I showed throughout my time since arriving here. It hasn't been the start I wanted, but with my belief and my mindset, I think my positive mindset and positive attitude are what kept me going. Eventually, when given the chance, I had to step up and take that opportunity. I think I did that, and now it's a matter of maintaining and even increasing that level of consistent performances," said Basadien.

It seems to be the Sundowns DNA under coach Miguel Cardoso to also have that never-say-die attitude and Basadien adds that it was evident in the 2-1 Betway Premiership win over Golden Arrows at the weekend.  

Sundowns host Siwelele tonight at Loftus Stadium and the defender emphasised the need to impose their style on the visitors who will be led by coach Godfrey Mosoetsa following the sacking of Lehlohonolo Seema.

The Brazilians have been getting good crowds at Loftus and Basadien made a call for the supporters to come in their numbers once more.

"Yeah, I think the supporters can expect a good half-time show and a lot of entertainment and activities to keep the fans engaged. I think it's an experience for the fans to enjoy at half-time, allowing them to take their minds off the game and focus on a bit of entertainment for themselves."
