Mayo's future had been in serious doubt when coach Sead Ramovic left him out of the registered squad list on Monday night, when the domestic registration window closed, effectively putting him in limbo for at least the next six months.
Agent Basia Michaels confirmed there were offers from Kuwait, Turkey, and Iran, but felt that a move back home was the best option.¨
“We had offers abroad, but in the end, for personal reasons, we felt it was best for Khanyisa to come back and join Chiefs,” Michaels told SABC Sport.
Mayo joins Amakhosi on loan from the Algerian outfit for the 2025/26 campaign, with the deal including an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Michaels previously revealed that Chiefs had long admired the player, having confirmed that the club’s interest dates back to shortly after Mayo signed for Belouizdad from Cape Town City a year ago.
“I have to thank the sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr for his persistence. This was a very difficult transaction, but he never gave up – and now Khanyisa follows in his father’s footsteps,” she added, referencing Patrick Mayo, who played for the Soweto giants from 2003 to 2007.
For The Glamour Boys, the deal represents a significant win, while it offers a lifeline for the 27-year-old after being frozen out in Algeria, and the chance to reignite his career on home soil.
