Aden McCarthy stresses milestone 57-point target for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy says they will not be taking Chippa United lightly as they look to wrap up their 2025/2026 season in style at Moses Mabhida Stadium today.

With 54 points from 29 matches, and third spot locked in, Amakhosi have an opportunity to match their best points tally in the last 10 years of 57 points.

McCarthy says the current group of players are on a mission to restore the club’s dignity but knows new Chippa coach Brandon Truter will not make it any easier.

"Going into this weekend's game, it's just like any other game I'd say. Although there's nothing to really play for, we're going for three points," said McCarthy.

"It's not a secret, it's not a joke or whatever, we want the three points and we want to end the season off with 57 points.

"Every team in the league can be dangerous in their own ways, we've done our analysis here and there, and as mentioned, there's a new coach at Chippa for this game, so we don't know what to expect but I say we are ready to deal with whatever comes our way."

It’s also been a season of growth for McCarthy, who has featured in 22 matches in the Betway Premiership this season, as he looks back with pride at what he’s been able to achieve so far.

"Firstly, I've been great, I can't complain because complaining will get you nowhere in life. Before the season started, I was able to make my debut for the senior team, which was definitely one to remember," he added.

"Prior to that, I had won the DDC league and I've been in the first team setup for the past two-to-three seasons, so it's nothing new to me where I'd be training and just getting game time with the reserve team.

"And I think at the start of the season I just knew what I wanted, and I knew what I had to achieve as an individual to help the team – and that's what I did off the field."
