Cape Town Stadium delivered another high-octane United Rugby Championship afternoon on Saturday as the Stormers edged Scarlets in a 14-try spectacular.
While the result secured a full house of points for the home side, the lasting memory belonged to a 20-year-old flyhalf who entered the fray in the final quarter and settled a nervy contest with two clinical tries.
With the scores locked at 40-40 after Scarlets had erased a 19-point half-time deficit, the young pivot responded with composure beyond his years, first finishing under the posts and then sealing the win with a late breakaway try.
Afterwards, Ahmed reflected on the privilege of wearing the blue-and-white jersey in front of a home crowd.
"There's nothing better than playing at Cape Town Stadium and for the Stormers. I'm just happy to be back in the team and get that last 20 minutes," he told reporters.
"The last 20 minutes was really difficult in terms of all the injuries happening, but I'm just glad that I could play my game."
Injuries disrupted the Stormers' backline and forward pack as the game opened up and Ahmed was quick to credit the guidance he received from senior players around him, particularly Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
"Having those voices in my ear like Sacha when I came on, it made such a big difference for me in terms of decision-making," he said. "I believe I can only get better.
"It's a privilege that the Boks are in the set-up because you get to learn from them and what they're bringing.
"Whatever info I can get, whether it's from Sacha or Damian Willemse, I'm taking it with both hands because I know it'll be the betterment of my future.
"They take the time to be with you. It's like they're investing in you, because you're really working together."
