Springbok Steven Kitshoff potentially out for the season

Double World Cup winner Steven Kitshoff has suffered a potentially season-ending injury.

Irish club Ulster revealed that the prop suffered a serious knee injury in their recent Challenge Cup clash and will miss the rest of their season.

"Steven Kitshoff suffered a knee injury against Clermont in the EPCR Challenge Cup Quarter-Final fixture and following a scan and specialist opinion it has been determined that unfortunately, this is season-ending," read the club's statement.

"He will travel back to South Africa this week, where he will see a knee specialist to decide on the required treatment plan."

The injury brings a premature end to Kitshoff's tenure at Ulster, as he has signed with the Stormers for next season. The Somerset West native ran out 14 times for the Irish giants, who have had a below-par season by their standards.

It remains to be seen if Kitshoff will recover in time to be available for selection for the Boks' clashes against Ireland in July.
