Man of the Match Luan Giliomee produced an impressive performance for the Sharks, with Pietersen praising the loose forward’s ability to spot opportunities and make the most of the space in front of him. Giliomee is set to leave Durban for the Bulls before the end of the year, meaning next weekend could be one of his final appearances for the Sharks.

Janco Purchase was drafted into the starting team shortly before kick-off after Murray Koster withdrew with an injury. The centre quickly made an impact, playing a key role in the build-up to Manu Tshituka’s first-half try as the Sharks crossed for five tries in total.

The Sharks will now turn their attention to defending champions Leinster, who visit Kings Park next weekend. Pietersen says there are areas that need attention despite the convincing result, particularly their handling errors and the ease with which they allowed the Ospreys to score.
