After an emotional week in which they mourned the untimely death of teammate Hyron Andrews, the Lions struggled to build momentum in the wet and were repeatedly let down by their lineout as Edinburgh extended their unbeaten start to the URC season.
The Scottish side took the lead in the 20th minute when Tom Currie finished off a slick attacking move involving Piers O'Conor and Harry Paterson.
The Lions responded through a Chris Smith penalty in the 33rd minute to reduce the deficit to two points. They defended manfully for much of the first half and went into the break trailing just 5-3.
However, Edinburgh took control after half-time. Mosese Tuipulotu crossed in the 47th minute after excellent interplay from Paterson, before Paterson added another try four minutes later following a well-timed pass from O'Conor. James Grayson converted both scores to give the hosts a 19-3 lead.
The Lions briefly threatened a comeback when Bathobele Hlekani scored in the 57th minute. Smith added the conversion to cut the deficit to nine points at 19-10.
But Edinburgh quickly retook control. Paterson crossed for his second try of the match in the 65th minute, before Geordie Gwynn finished off another attacking move in the 74th minute.
Cammy Scott converted Gwynn's try to seal the 31-10 victory, leaving the Lions with little to show for their efforts after a difficult second half.
