Ethan Hooker returns as Sharks make two backline changes for Cardiff showdown

The Sharks have largely stuck with a winning formula for Friday evening's United Rugby Championship clash against Cardiff, as they continue their push for a top-eight finish.

Head coach JP Pietersen has made minimal changes to the side that comfortably beat Munster last week, keeping faith with the pack after their dominant performance.

There are, however, two changes in the backline. Bradley Davids replaces the injured Grant Williams at scrumhalf, while Ethan Hooker returns from family responsibility leave to partner captain Andre Esterhuizen in midfield.

The Sharks will be looking to build on the momentum and spirit shown in their win over Munster, where the team celebrated a milestone performance from Makazole Mapimpi, who marked his 101st appearance for the franchise with two tries.

Lock Emile van Heerden highlighted Mapimpi's influence, saying the winger remains a key figure both for the Sharks and South African rugby.

"He means a lot to South African rugby, not just the Hollywoodbets Sharks, and playing 100 games is something to be celebrated. What made it even sweeter was him scoring two tries at the end," Van Heerden said.

Friday's match kicks off at 7pm.
