The Springbok playmaker delivered the defining moment of the match when the Stormers were trailing 7-0 and temporarily down to 13 men. Spotting a gap from prior analysis of Bulls' patterns, Willemse timed his run to perfection, connecting with Stefan Ungerer's pass before bursting through for a crucial try.
"It felt great to be back on the field," Willemse said. "I knew the team needed a spark, and I just wanted to make the right decisions at the right time.
"I made eye contact with Stef and he picked me up perfectly. I just hit the gap at the perfect moment. Everything clicked in that instant," he recalled.
Beyond the try, Willemse's performance was a masterclass in composure under pressure. He orchestrated attacking plays, slotted crucial kicks, and constantly probed the Bulls' defence, forcing errors and creating opportunities. His ability to read the game and react instinctively left the opposition scrambling.
"It's about reading the spaces and trusting your instincts. In that moment, it felt like everything slowed down, and I just had to execute," he said.
Willemse's impact extended to the mental side of the game as well. After weeks off, he injected calm and belief into the Stormers, taking control in high-pressure situations and setting the tone for a side that had struggled in recent derbies.
"You want to be the guy that makes the difference when the team is under pressure. That's what I aim for every time I step on the field," Willemse added.
With six league-stage matches remaining, the Springbok is already looking ahead. Sunday's clash against the Dragons in Cape Town presents another challenge.
"Every game is a chance to make an impact. My job is to stay sharp, stay composed, and be ready for those moments," he said.
