Cobus Reinach injury overshadows Stormers' emphatic win over Glasgow

The Springbok scrumhalf went down in the 60th minute clutching his knee after an awkward incident. While the medical cart was initially called, the 35-year-old was eventually able to walk off the field unaided - though concern quickly grew on the Stormers' bench.

Head coach John Dobson was cautious but far from optimistic in his post-match assessment.

"He's in a brace and hasn't been scanned yet," Dobson said. "But I don't see that being a quick turnaround.

"It looks like a ligament, possibly medial. Hopefully it's not an ACL, but it's serious enough to keep him out for a while."

The injury comes at a critical point in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship season, with just two rounds remaining before the playoffs.

"It's going to put us under pressure," Dobson admitted. "I thought Cobus played his best game in a while today. After the hernia op, he looked like he was on his comeback."

Replacement scrumhalf Imad Khan helped see the Stormers home in the closing stages, but Reinach's potential absence would be a significant setback.

"I just hope it's not bad for the Springboks as well," Dobson added.

At 35, Reinach provides valuable experience and tempo off the bench, but a prolonged lay-off could create opportunities for other scrumhalves in the Springbok setup. 

Grant Williams, known for his electric pace and game-breaking ability, stands as a strong candidate to step up or even challenge for a starting role, while the likes of Morne van den Berg and even Faf de Klerk could find their way back into the starting line-up.
