Bulls flyhalf Johan Goosen's career could be in jeopardy after latest injury blow

Johan Goosen's turbulent career could be nearing its conclusion after the Bulls flyhalf suffered another concerning knee injury during the United Rugby Championship Round 17 clash against Cardiff.

Goosen lasted just 11 minutes before being forced from the field, his departure casting a shadow over the Bulls' match and reigniting long-standing concerns over his fitness. While the full extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, the early signs are troubling given his history.

Knee problems have been a recurring theme throughout Goosen's career. The first major setback came in 2012, when he was replaced in the Junior Springboks squad by Handre Pollard. Since then, a string of knee injuries has hampered what once seemed a limitless trajectory.

His latest return came in early April following a two-and-a-half-month absence due to another knee issue sustained in the Champions Cup against Stade Francais. Goosen showed promising form in his comeback appearance during the Bulls' Challenge Cup Round of 16 match against Bayonne, but the resurgence proved short-lived.

Bulls director of rugby Jake White was visibly emotional after the Cardiff match and offered no medical update, simply saying: "I feel for the guy." With Goosen now 32 and having endured multiple setbacks, the path back to professional rugby looks increasingly uncertain.
