All Blacks sweep aside Wales as Damian McKenzie shines in seven-try Cardiff rout

New Zealand closed their season with a commanding 52-26 victory over Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, stretching their remarkable winning streak in the fixture to 34 matches.

In front of 68,388 spectators at Principality Stadium, the All Blacks overcame the absence of senior trio Ardie Savea, Codie Taylor and Beauden Barrett - a combined 357 caps - to reassert their dominance despite making 12 changes from the side beaten 33-19 by England the previous weekend.

Damian McKenzie delivered a flawless display from the tee, kicking all seven conversions and a penalty for a 17-point haul, while Scott Robertson signed off the campaign with a welcome win.

Caleb Clarke set the tone with a fifth-minute try, before further first-half scores from Ruben Love - who stepped past two forwards on a solo run - and Tamaiti Williams. Referee Holly Davidson disallowed efforts from Clarke and Will Jordan, but New Zealand still led at the interval.

Wales, ranked 12th to New Zealand's second, fought gamely and were buoyed by a superb hat-trick from wing Tom Rogers. He crossed first from a Dan Edwards pass, with the fly-half converting, then added a second following interplay with Edwards and Max Llewellyn.

Rogers completed his treble early in the second half, becoming the first Welshman to score a hat-trick since Louis Rees-Zammit achieved the feat against Georgia at the 2023 World Cup.

The All Blacks, however, pulled away as Rieko Ioane touched down after a McKenzie kick-pass, with Sevu Reece striking twice - the first coming moments after Wales prop Gareth Thomas was sin-binned for a no-arms tackle, the second after outstepping Jarrod Evans.

Clarke added his second late on to push New Zealand beyond 50 points, either side of a consolation score from Rees-Zammit.
