ZNA President Letitia Chipandu encourages collaboration amongst African teams

Zimbabwe Netball Association President Letitia Chipandu says collaboration amongst African teams is important to help grow the sport on the continent.

Chipandu joined other dignitaries for the 2025 Telkom Netball League opening ceremony at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West.

She also accompanies the Zimbabwe national team, which is part of the 18 teams competing for the championship.

In an exclusive interview with SABC Sport, Chimpandu adds that she is happy to see the Zambezi Eagles feeding from one of the top nations in Netball.

"I believe that together, we will conquer. We saw this as an opportunity for us to network and to partner with South Africa.

"South Africa is the biggest sister in African netball; they are ranked 5th in the world, and we believe that we will be learning from the best in Africa. We share notes, we compete against one another, and we uplift each other," explained Chipandu.

Chipandu confirmed that the Zimbabwe national team is using the Telkom Netball League to prepare for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. She adds that despite the slow start to the league, the team is headed in the right direction and encourages them to learn from other top teams in the league.

"We started sluggishly, but we are starting to reach our peak. Our technical team must remain vigilant, and they must make sure that our girls are watching the other games that are being played, and then they may learn the different movements and tactics that are on show.

"When we come back in June, I think we'll be bringing a much better team. The good thing is that this is a very young team because we don't have anybody who is above 25 years old.

"We have started this journey with the 2027 World Cup qualifiers in mind. We are following a blueprint, and our participation in South Africa is part of our roadmap to the World Cup," said the ZNA President.

When asked about the administrative issues surrounding NSA currently, Chipandu said she can only comment once the investigations are completed.
