Siya Kuse declares that he will become a World Champion

South Africa’s straw-weight sensation, Siyakholwa Kuse, remains undeterred in his quest to become a World Champion, after many thought he had done enough to dethrone Melvin Jerusalem in Manila, Philippines.

The challenger from Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape pushed his limits and pushed the Filipino champion in what was a gripping 12-round fight.

Kuse believes his preparation couldn’t have gone much better…

"My preparation for this fight was great, although it was far from easy. I worked very hard for this fight, and I trained two times a day with the hopes of becoming a World Champion in Manila."

Kuse overcame many odds throughout his lifetime before setting foot in Manila and featuring on a historic card that served as the 50th anniversary tribute to the legendary ‘Thrilla in Manila’ fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Much like the never-say-die attitude of those heavyweight icons, Kuse demonstrated his slick attacks and his ability to absorb bruising blows and keep moving forward.
The 26-year-old may have lost in the judges' eyes, but he is sure he won over hearts and minds on foreign soil.

"Before the fight started, I did feel a little bit nervous, but once it started, I was ready to fight with everything I had.

"When I heard the scorecards after 4 rounds, I was a little bit disturbed, but I kept on pushing myself to win the fight."

The southpaw technician was left disappointed when none of the three judges scored the fight in his favour, even though he was the more active fighter on the night, setting the pace and stringing together some crafty combinations.

Kuse is nonetheless grateful for all the support he received back home, and for the opportunity to display his skills on the world stage.
He is itching to tempt fate again, but when his next title shot comes around, Kuse is certain that he will be a World Champion.
"I want to thank the people of South Africa for supporting me, and I really didn't expect to see what I saw on social media before and after the fight.
"All I can say is, next time I will become the World Champion."
