Speaking to SABC Sport, Obotseng says running to honour the legacy of Madiba has become a great part of his life.
"Nelson Mandela Day means a lot to me, and to everyone who came to take part in this event today.
"We are not only celebrating the day and the race, but an absolute South African legend," stated Obotseng.
Obotseng explains why it is important to have more young people participate in social sport movements like the Mandela Day Walk and Run.
"This event because you get to engage with people, and you stay active in the process."
The 22-year-old is fresh from participating in the Absa Run Your City series in Durban last weekend, he adds that he wants to remain consistent in his running and shares what is next for him.
"I'm going to start preparing for the other ABSA run your city race, and I'm hoping to do well there. I might have won today, but my time was not good, so I'm eager to train again."
Obotseng also confirmed that he will be back to defend his title at the Nelson Mandela Day Walk and Run event next year.
