Martha Mosoahle-Samm leads Crinums to 2026 TNL title

Free State Crinums coach Martha Mosoahle-Samm says she is happy that her players embraced the team’s mandate and delivered on expectations to secure the 2026 Telkom Netball League title.

The Crinums dethroned defending champions, the Gauteng Fireballs, with a commanding 46-32 victory in the final at Rembrandt Hall in Pretoria on Monday evening.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Mosoahle-Samm says it was crucial for the team to refine its strategy after falling short in the 2025 campaign.

"It's an amazing feeling after a sad end to last year's final. We knew we had to work hard and come back with a different strategy, and that is being dominant in everything we do. The girls knew how it felt last year so we needed to come back and make sure we win this one. I'm so proud of them."

Mosoahle-Samm says maintaining control throughout all four quarters against the Fireballs was a key factor in the victory, as the Crinums completed their unbeaten run in this year’s campaign.

"They are the defending champions so we knew they were going to come out hard against us. I think we had a great strategy against them, we knew we had to break the entire 60 minutes by four quarters and that's exactly what we did. You don't want to start from a losing position against a team like that because they will frustrate you, so we knew had to be on a draw each quarter as the worst case scenario."

The 47-year-old coach added that the team’s motivation stemmed from a strong desire to reclaim the trophy and secure a second Telkom Netball League title under her leadership.
