Ramphadi and Kaplan missed out on the major title after their 6-3 6-4 defeat to Israel’s Guy Sasson and Niels Vink of the Netherlands on Friday.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Ramphadi says despite not getting the results he wanted in the singles, he remains proud of redeeming himself with a power performance in the doubles final.
“In the singles it’s not the result that I wanted but it makes it better to get to the finals and to pull out that fight. So, I’m happy with what I’ve got, I know I should have gotten a better position, which is the first,” Ramphadi said.
“I’m happy with how we performed in the finals, it is one of the biggest matches we can ever play at the grand slams. For us to actually manage to play like that, you know, just give it all on that stage is just unbelievable, I’m happy with the performance that we put out there.”
Ramphadi adds he was happy to reunite with Kaplan after their participation in the Australian Open earlier this year. He believes they complement each other well.
“So, he’s such a special player, he has big shots, I was just a drive to guide and do what I do best. Play long balls, high balls, so yeah, we did well,” he added.
“I’m very proud of what we did, and also it was the first time playing finals at the grand slams, so it’s a good achievement for him and also for me.”
