Sikhosana last competed in the major championship in 2024, when he claimed a silver medal after suffering a 6-7, 1-6 defeat to Spanish player Daniel Caverzaschi in the final.
Speaking to SABC Sport, the 25-year-old says his main focus is maintaining high-intensity training to ensure he is fully prepared for the upcoming tournament.
"I am looking forward to competing in what I expect will be a great tournament. The last time I participated, I reached the final, which gives me confidence heading into this edition," said Sikhosana.
"However, my primary focus is on preparing at the highest level, ensuring that my training is structured, disciplined, and that I maintain a strong, positive mindset throughout."
Having recently returned from a successful Asian tour, where he competed at the Busan Open, Daegu Open, Seoul Open and Japan Open, where he reaching the doubles quarterfinals, he says the tour served as valuable preparation for the Madrid Open.
“I feel highly motivated following a successful Asian tour. That momentum is important, especially with another tour approaching," the South African noted.
The Umlazi-born player adds that he is relieved to have secured sponsorship ahead of the Madrid Open, which gets underway on 14 May.
"At the same time, I am focused on continuous improvement. There are specific areas from the first tour that I want to refine, and I have been working closely with my coach and fitness trainer this week to address them."
“Our preparation has been very productive, despite having a limited timeframe of just one week. We have committed fully to making the most of this period to ensure I am ready for both the Madrid Open and the Padova Open.
“I am grateful to the Nyatee Foundation for their full support in sponsoring this trip. Having that level of backing allows me to concentrate entirely on my performance without external distractions. I truly appreciate their continued belief in my journey,” Sikhosana concluded.
