Kalengui stopped hard man Zwelakhe Nhlapo in the fourth round of their one-sided battle at Carnival City. The result takes “Sugar” to an unblemished record of 4-0 with three stoppages.
Speaking to SABC Sport, the undefeated prospect had this to say about his last performance…
“The event on the night was electrifying, and the fight played out exactly the way I wanted it to. I told me brother that I was aiming for a highlight reel knockout, and I actually got it.
“I knew that I was going to dominate him on the night. He fought national champions and amateur champions and some of them went the distance with him, but I know that I’m different. I knew I was going to break him, and after working the body I knew the head would fall.”
Moses has risen through the ranks alongside his brother in gloves, Emmanuel. He says they have cultivated healthy competition between one another as they continue to surge up the rankings.
“Every time I’m in the gym with my brother, I feel encouraged and energised. Some days I wouldn’t want to train because I get discouraged or I feel unmotivated, but my brother always picks me up and gets me back on track every time.
“There’s always a competition on the go between the two of us, who’s better in sparring, who runs faster, who punches the bag harder and so on. When we fight on the same bill, I always want to do better than he does, and he always wants to perform better than me.”
Kalengui has always prided himself on working hard in the gym and listening closely to his coaches since he started boxing eleven years ago.
The young boxing technician says he plans to fight four times in 2026…
“Hopefully I get to fight four times this year after having three fights last year. I’m trying to chase a youth title either this year or maybe even the SA Title because I believe I stand a very good chance.
“For anybody in the top ten, from number nine to the champion, know that I’m ready for you guys."
