Measures in place to ensure no loadshedding at Netball World Cup 2023

Netball South Africa CEO Blanche de la Guerre has issued reassurance that the eagerly-awaited Netball World Cup 2023 will be unaffected by the ongoing national blackouts.

The first-ever Netball World Cup on African soil is set to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 28 July to 6 August.

De la Guerre affirmed that both Netball SA and the City of Cape Town have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the 16 participating nations will not face any disruptions caused by Eskom's 'load shedding' during the event.

"We engaged in extensive discussions with the match venue organisers and the City of Cape Town, and they devised a robust strategy to ensure no load shedding during the event," de la Guerre told SABC Sport in the Mother City on Monday.

"They have given us their assurance that measures will be diligently implemented to avert any potential disruptions, as we cannot afford even a simple moment of power outage.

"With international TV crews in attendance, any outage would incur significant costs for us. Additionally, there will be no load shedding at any hotels hosting our international guests.

"When asked about load shedding, we confidently assure that the tournament will remain entirely unaffected. Load shedding [is] not even a concern."

The Proteas will get their campaign underway against Wales on Friday following the conclusion of the opening ceremony at 18h00.
