Japan Open doubles title prepares Kgothatso Montjane for the French Open

South Africa’s wheelchair Tennis sensation Kgothatso Montjane says her recent achievement at the Japan Open serves as preparation for the French Open, which will take place between 20 May and 9 June.

Montjane paired up with Japanese Yui Kamiji to win the doubles title at the 2024 Japan Open on Sunday.

The duo had a good 6-0, 6-1 run against Saki Takamuro and Aniek van Koot in the final, this becoming their second successive Japan Open title.

“I’m pretty much happy with my work at the Japan Open. I made good progress compared to last year, especially in the singles. I am happy that Yui and I managed to defend our doubles title, it is part of my preparation for the Roland Garros,’’ said Montjane.

The 37-year-old tennis star further shared with SABC Sport that there hasn't been balance in between her schedule, as she continues to compete - building up to the Paralympics, which will take place from 28 August to 08 of September 2024.

“I will be honest there is no balance at the moment, I just keep competing, trying to make sure that I am in the right position in terms of rankings - come 2024 Paralympics.’’
