In-form runner Kabelo Mulaudzi targets another 10km win

Fresh off his victory at the Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10km last week, road runner Kabelo Mulaudzi has now fixed his focus on the Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km event, scheduled to take place at Kings Park Stadium this Sunday at 6 am.

The 25-year-old runner from Boxer Running Club has notched consecutive wins in the Run Your City races, triumphing in both Durban and Tshwane, and he’s determined to underscore that his recent impressive form is far from coincidental during this upcoming weekend.

As he journeyed to Durban today, Mulaudzi shared with SABC Sport his aspiration to clinch yet another podium finish. He accomplished the Tshwane race at the Union Buildings in 29 minutes and 12 seconds securing the R30 000 prize.

Moreover, he clocked in at 27:56, a personal best, to seize victory at the Durban Run Your City back in July.

Just a fortnight ago, this exceptionally talented runner, who has been under the guidance of Coach Richard Meyer since 2013, claimed the top spot at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) cross-country championships in Kagiso within Mogale City.

“Progress in gearing up for Durban remains positive. I’m striving to conquer the Run Your City races this September, with the Durban Summer 10km serving as a litmus test for preparedness. Anticipation is high for the upcoming Sunday: my aspirations include another podium triumph. I’m earnestly hoping for favourable weather conditions, aiming to secure a spot within the top three. My key directives involve maintaining concentration, heeding my coach’s guidance, and flawlessly executing my strategy.  The victory in Tshwane, while now takes a backseat as my focus shifts unwavering to the forthcoming challenge,” Mulaudzi told SABC Sport.

His aim is to secure qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in both the 5000m and 10 000m events set to take place in Paris. Beginning in November, he will embark on the pursuit of his track and field aspirations. Additionally, he has set his sights on earning a spot at the world cross country championships in Croatia next year. His objective includes clinching a place at the event through participation in the SA cross country championships scheduled for September 16 in Gqeberha.

“In the previous year, I fell short of securing a spot within the top ten during the Durban Summer 10km. However, I’m now filled with confidence and optimal well-being, poised to assert myself in this year’s race. My intention are to forge ahead ad attain remarkable milestone in the upcoming year,” Mulaudzi concluded with determination.
