The initiative provides the athletes with financial stability and peace of mind, allowing them to focus fully on training and competition while planning the next phase of their careers.
Led by respected club manager Ryhn Swanepoel, the team affectionately known in road running circles as the “Red Arm” is buzzing with excitement ahead of the upcoming international season, where its athletes will compete across both shorter and longer distance races around the world.
Among the athletes who have signed new deals is three-time Olympian Elroy Gelant, who is currently preparing for a major marathon abroad later this year.
He is joined by star performer Kabelo Mulaudzi, who enjoyed a sensational 2025 season by winning the Absa Run Your City Series a record four times.
National marathon record holder Glenrose Xaba has also committed her future to the club and is set to represent South Africa at the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 2026 in September.
The list of athletes securing contracts also includes national half-marathon silver medallist Cacisile Sosibo, rising talents Karabo More and Karabo Mailula—the national 4km champion who also finished fourth in the SPAR Women's Grand Prix.
Also committing to the club’s vision are Bennett Seloyi, Precious Mashele, Chris Mhlanga, and promising youngster Musawenkosi Mnisi, who at just 20 years old represents the next generation of talent within the squad.
The most experienced member of the team, Gelant (39)—who is married to former national 100m champion Tamzin Thomas—told SABC Sport he welcomed the bumper contract, which guarantees him a monthly stipend for the next 24 months.
“I have been with Boxer for over a decade because of the strong support, professionalism and loyalty the club shows towards its athletes,” said Gelant.
“My journey with the club has been stable and rewarding. The consistent backing and retainer sponsorship have allowed me to focus fully on my performances.”
Mulaudzi, who missed the opening leg of the Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10km last week, was equally delighted with his contract extension.
“The decision by the club to offer athletes a two-year contract is a very positive step,” said the three-time national cross-country champion.
“It provides stability and security, allowing us to plan our training and competitions with confidence.”
For Xaba, the club has played a crucial role in her development and growth as an athlete.
“The club is a great platform that helps develop athletes until they become mature, just like it did for me,” she said.
“We run in a supportive environment where there is no pressure to deliver results immediately. I am excited about the journey ahead, motivated, and I cannot wait to get back on the road.”
With stability, unity and a strong culture of support, the Boxer Running Club continues to prove that investing in athletes is one of the surest ways to build champions.
