Athletics South Africa boss James Moloi to search for more sponsors

Approaching the last year of his current term, Athletics South Africa (ASA) President James Moloi is gearing up to intensify efforts in securing additional sponsors for the national federation.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Moloi expressed his intentions to pursue re-election in the 2025 elections.

The former head of Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) acknowledged the challenging nature of his initial term, highlighting the critical state in which he found the federation and the imperative need for its survival.

“The initial term poses greater challenges compared to the subsequent one. The hurdles are more formidable in the first term, and even as I approach my final year, I am still dedicated to addressing the issues I inherited in office. In this concluding year, our focus is actively securing sponsors for our competitions. Having successfully introduced TV coverage through a pay channel, the upcoming year will centre on attracting valuable sponsorships, ”Moloi explained.

Moloi is actively seeking a headline sponsor for the upcoming year’s National Championships and the leg of the Grand Prix Series that spans across the country. Given that it’s an Olympic year, the primary focus is on adequately preparing the athletes for the Paris Games.

“The objective is to secure the collaboration of two or three sponsors as we embark on our journey in the upcoming year. The initial phase involves striking a balance in the equation. The provinces have made commendable efforts in supporting the athletes, and by fostering a collaborative relationship with them, we can collectively chart the course for the upcoming year,” added Moloi.
