Marumo Gallants continue to soar in the CAF Confederation Cup

Bottom of the log in the Dstv Premiership but soaring in the CAF Confederation Cup, the fairytale story of Marumo Gallants continued yesterday in the continental tournament as they beat Algeria giants USM Alger 2-0 in Group A played at the Dobsonville stadium.

Goals from Lesiba Nku and Letsie Koapeng ensured that Gallants return to the summit of Group A and only need a draw in their last two matches to secure a passage to the quarterfinals.

Gallants interim coach Raymond Mdaka says all they want is to qualify for the quarfinals.

"All we want is to qualify. Whether we qualify as the first or the second team is all the same but if we continue playing like we are, we can qualify. We are left with two teams, we are going to Libya then there's the Congo team that is coming, it's a matter of six points. Out of six points, if we can have four then we can come out on top," he said.

Gallants had lost 2-0 away to USM Alger in Algiers but they turned on the heat on a sunny afternoon and Mdaka says they technically twisted things around.

"I think the away game had a number of challenges, they played more high balls. They did their homework; they never gave us any chances for us to be able to keep the ball on the ground and create scoring opportunities. Today, we already knew how they attack their set pieces and how to close them down. The fact that we could play the ball on the ground gave us an opportunity to create goals," he concluded.
