Confirmed: TS Galaxy terminate Sibusiso Vilakazi’s contract

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has confirmed the mutual decision taken by the club and midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi to ‘part ways’.

Following his move from Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent when the 2022/23 season began, the former Bafana Bafana international has battled to feature regularly for The Rockets despite being considered a marquee signing.

Vilakazi, the 2014 Footballer of the Season while still at Bidvest Wits prior to his high profile move to Sundowns, had become a fringe player at Galaxy and hasn’t been in the starting line-up since August.

With this the major factor, Galaxy have now offloaded him.

“TS Galaxy FC confirms its agreement for the mutual termination of contract it had with Sibusiso Vilakazi. This follows lack of regular game time on the part of the player,” the club said in a statement sent to SABC Sport.

Sukazi said to finally come to a conclusion that this was the best way forward wasn’t a decision taken overnight.

“Our club has parted ways with Vila. It was not an easy decision because Vila is a player that we hold in high regard as a club such that the negotiations around the contract termination, even though understandable, were not a simple matter,” the boss explained.

“Vila is an absolute professional who has contributed a lot to our Club within the shortest time of his stay. Our club doors will remain open to him in the future.”

The player’s agent, Mike Makaab of Prosport International acknowledged that his client’s spell with The Rockets had not turned out as expected.

“It was purely in the interests of both parties to terminate amicably, as things did not work out as anticipated. These things happen in football,” said Makaab.
