Will Jacks shines as Pretoria Capitals secure first win in SA20

In a riveting SA20 League encounter, the Pretoria Capitals clinched a 17 run victory against the Durban Super Giants, marking their first triumph in the T20 competition.

Facing a challenging target of 205 runs, the Super Giants succumbed to the Capitals' relentless performance, enduring their first defeat of the season in a high-stakes match at Centurion.

The Capitals, opting to bat after winning the toss, witnessed a spectacular start as openers Will Jacks and Phil Salt forged a dynamic 75-run partnership for the first wicket. Despite Salt's departure in the sixth over after contributing a brisk 24 off 13, Jacks took centre stage, unleashing a blistering 101 off just 42 balls at an astonishing strike rate of 240.47. His explosive innings featured eight fours and an incredible nine sixes, marking his second T20 century.

Supported by middle-order batsman Colin Ingram, who contributed a valuable 43 off 23 deliveries, the Capitals posted a commanding total of 204/9, putting the Super Giants under intense pressure.

In pursuit of the challenging target, the Super Giants fought hard, with eight of their batters reaching double figures. However, they fell short as the Capitals' bowlers, led by Jacks' right-arm spin, restricted them to 187/7. Opener Matthew Breetzke top-scored for the Super Giants with 33 runs.

Jacks, not only a star with the bat but also a potent force with the ball, spearheaded the Capitals' bowling attack, finishing with figures of 2/18. Seam bowlers Hardus Viljoen (2/39) and Wayne Parnell (2/54) also contributed significantly, grabbing two wickets each.

England seamer Reece Topley led a resilient Super Giants bowling effort, returning figures of 3/34. Despite his efforts, the Capitals secured a 17-run victory, marking a breakthrough result for them in the SA20 league and keeping them in contention for the playoffs.

The thrilling encounter showcased the Capitals' determination and all-round prowess, setting the stage for an exciting campaign ahead.
