PC secured the services of the Proteas captain for R500 thousand in last night’s auction, in a last ditch uncontested nominations bid to bring him back to the competition after missing the last two seasons,
Pollock says they always planned to get Bavuma, who has grown significantly in his T20 cricket and will be fresh from a big international summer when the tournament gets underway in January.
"Yeah no it was always part of the plans, very happy, I mean from that price it's just an absolute steal. If you think that he'll be coming into the SA20 having played the test matches against England and the three one days against England,” Pollock said.
“Facing all the best international bowlers in the world I think his games improved from an options perspective. From a strike rate perspective, he's very understanding of his ability now and what he can or can't do."
The 36-year-old batter went unsold in both Season 3 and Season 4 of the competition, and Pollock believes this will fuel his desire to prove his doubters wrong in his new team.
"And I think the big thing for us is also the desiree, I think there'll be a massive desire on his part. I think he would have been disappointed not to have been picked up in years gone by and we hope that he comes in with a point to prove and that he took an opportunity to play him and that he shows us what he's capable of,” he added.
