Tazmin Brits says she still has enough in the tank for Proteas Women

Proteas Women batter Tazmin Brits says she hopes to still be a part of the team by the time the next 50-over World Cup comes in 2029.

At 34 years old, Brits was one of the senior players during the recent tournament in India and Sri-Lanka, and revealed that coach Mandla Mashimbyi said some of them might be playing their last one for South Africa.

Brits, with 49 One Day International caps and 1 681 runs to her name, says she not only wants to play next year’s T20 World Cup but wants to win the big one before retirement.

"Funny enough I actually said to the coach when I rejoined the team, because before the World Cup final he called a few of the senior players and said this might be our last one. I said to him he mustn't get rid of me yet, I will definitely try and stay fit as possible and improve on my game. I would like to play one more ODI, I don't think I am done yet, hopefully another four or five years to go," said Brits.

Brits returned to the national team ahead of the ODI series against Ireland, and played in their seven-wicket win on Saturday – her first match in South African colours since the World Cup final against India last month.

She detailed how difficult it was for her to miss the T20 series from the beginning of December.

While the team chased down the set 209 total with relative ease, Brits was disappointed with her dismissal after posting 27 runs. She explained how it happened and what remedial measures she hopes to apply.

"I didn't play the shot through, tried to place it between the two fielders but the coach said if I ring through, I will probably hit a six. But you learn from these, sometimes you got to generate more power and yes it wasn't a great shot," added Brits.

She also reiterated the coach’s words about playing with a particular intent regardless of what the result is, starting with tomorrow’s second match of the series in Gqeberha.

"We definitely spoke about intent, especially me and Goodall. We will definitely try to strike better and hopefully in the next game we can try and improve on that," she expressed.
