Muthusamy made the starting eleven for the first time at the ripe old age of 31, but is grateful to finally get the nod from coach Shukri Conrad.
"It's fantastic to get a crack at international T20 cricket. I have waited in line for quite some time, so I'm relishing the opportunity, and I'm very grateful to be representing my country.
"I've learned a great deal from simply being in the squad, and I hope to add value where I can," said the debutant.
He believes playing for the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 has helped sharpen his skills in the shortest format of the game and will stand him in good stead at the international level.
"I have had the opportunity to represent the Pretoria Capitals in the Betway SA20 over the last three seasons, and I believe that has helped me develop my game in the shortest format of the game," said the accurate spinner.
In what was perhaps an element of surprise, Muthusamy was even promoted up the order to bat at four against the Black Caps, although he could only muster seven runs from nine balls faced.
"These days, a batting order is dependent on the situation. Everybody in the top eight needs to be fluid and adaptable in the modern game.
"I think a series like this one is the perfect opportunity to experiment and test new combinations."
