Kagiso Rabada suffers hamstring injury during winter training programme

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has suffered a hamstring injury while doing a winter training programme and will undergo further assessments with a home ODI series against Australia to come next month.

Rabada, along with many frontline players, was not named in the Proteas squad for the T20 tri-series and ODIs in Namibia starting next week and was primed to get the home summer underway when taking on Australia from 24 September in Durban.

The 31-year pace spearhead has not played any cricket since 31 May after representing Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Proteas will want Rabada in peak condition for the three ODIs against the Aussies which will then be followed by the much-anticipated three-match Test series.

The Proteas will also host Bangladesh (two Tests, three ODIs and T20Is) before England arrive in South Africa in December for the traditional festive season fixtures.

Another line from from Cricket South Africa (CSA) said the spin-bowling allrounder Senuran Muthusamy has been withdrawn from the SA 'A' squad for the first four-day fixture against Bangladesh A due to a lower back spasm.

Muthusamy played a key role in the Proteas Test side that drew a series in Pakistan and then beat India in India late last year.
