Proteas Women focused on dominating more bilateral series

Proteas Women all-rounder Nadine de Klerk says they have been intentional about dominating more of their bilateral series, and not just show up at major tournaments.

De Klerk was speaking ahead of Monday’s final T20 International against Pakistan in Benoni, having already wrapped up the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Having defeated Ireland in December, South Africa are bracing for a busy four months ahead with New Zealand and India on their calendar across two formats before the T20 Word Cup in June, and de Klerk says they need to be more ruthless in their approach.

"I think that's something we spoke about a lot over the last couple of months basically, that we probably didn't have the bilateral series before we rock up at World Cups," said de Klerk.

"And we shocked the whole world really, but we knew we were much better than that and capable of winning series as well, so I think winning that Ireland series, coming here dominating as well.

"Obviously we were under pressure in that first game, and having someone like Kayla [Reyneke] on debut winning that game just shows that the depth of the squad is growing and I think the character of this team as well, we're finding ways to win, which is great.

"I think I said it with the Ireland series as well, although we're 2-0 up, we still want to start white washing teams and really dominate world cricket, and show them what we're made of, so I think it's really important for us going into the next game as well."
