Proteas Women fall to big defeat as India secure draw in T20I series

The Proteas Women went down to a 10-wicket defeat against India in the third and final T20I played in Chennai as the hosts secured a series draw.

The tourists won the first game of the series before the second match was abandoned due to rain but they were no match for the hosts on Tuesday.

The Proteas could only muster a paltry total of 84 after being put in to bat at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Tazmin Brits top-scored with 20 while Anneke Bosch hit 17 but it was the India bowlers who held all the aces up their sleeve.

Pooja Vastrakar achieved career-best figures of 4-13 while Radha Yadav (3-6), Arundhati Reddy (1-14) and Deepti Sharma (1-21) were the other star performers for the home side.

Set with a target of just 85 for victory, opening batters Smriti Mandhana (54*) and Shafali Verma (27*)  approached their chase in fine fashion, racing to 40 without loss in the powerplay.

Shortly after bringing up their 50-run stand in the seventh over, the experienced pair showed no signs of slowing down and knocked off the target in the 11th over.

Both teams will take positives from the series as build up towards the Women's T20 World Cup that will take place in Bangladesh in October.
