Proteas batter Tristan Stubbs enters record books with triple ton in first-class match

Proteas batter Tristan Stubbs entered the record books when he smashed a triple century for the Warriors in a South African domestic first-class match against the Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg.

Stubbs, who made his Test debut against India at Newlands at the start of the year, was 302 not out off 372 balls as the Warriorswent to stumps on day two on of the 4day encounter on 517-3.

The 23-year-old joined some elite company as he became just the sixth South African to score a triple century in franchise (A division) cricket in South Africa or Test cricket.

The highest individual score is held by former Lions stalwart Stephen Cook, who scored 390 against the Warriors at Buffalo Park in East London back in 2009.

Darryl Cullinan, 337 for Transvaal against Northern Transvaal in 1993, Rilee Roussouw, 319 for the Eagles against the Titans in 2010, and Tony de Zorzi, 304 not out for Western Province against the Knights in 2022 are the only other South African franchise triple centurions in South African domestic cricket.

Hashim Amla is the only Proteas batter to score a triple ton in Test cricket after he amassed an unbeaten 311 against England at the Oval in 212.

Stubbs was involved in a record partnership in South African domestic cricket, with his 473-run third wicket stand with Matthew Breetzke (188) the highest for that wicket.

It fell just seven runs short of the all-time SA domestic partnership record between Rossouw (319) and Dean Elgar (161) who added 480 for the Eagles against the Titans in 2010.
